Lewis announced his retirement from stand-up comedy last April after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In the 1980s, Lewis rose to fame thanks to his neurotic, dark, and self-deprecating sense of humor.

Blanche was an actress in community theater, and her father Bill (d. 1971) was co-owner of Ambassador Caterers in neighboring Teaneck, New Jersey. 

Lewis had three siblings; His brother was six years older and his sister was nine years older. Lewis was left to fend for himself at home with his mother, a relationship that was strained, as his father was busy with his catering business and his siblings had already moved in by the 1960s.
