Is Treat Williams Dead?

Yes! He passed away on June 12, 2023, in an accident. Read below how he died in detail.

Treat Williams Accident

Williams was hurt in a motorbike accident on Vermont Route 30 in Dorset on June 12, 2023. The Vermont State Police (VSP) reported that a 2008 Honda Element was traveling south when it suddenly swerved into the northbound lane, crashing with Williams’s motorcycle. He was taken to Albany Medical Centre by helicopter, but unfortunately, he was declared dead at the age of 71. The medical examiner announced that “severe trauma and blood loss as a result of the crash” was the cause of death.

The investigation by the VSP was concluded on July 20, 2023, and the findings were handed over to the Office of Bennington County State Attorney Erica Marthage.

It was her job to determine whether charges would be filed. The accident investigation was concluded by the Office of the Bennington County State’s Attorney on August 1, 2023, according to the VSP. A ticket and charges of “grossly negligent operation resulting in death” were requested by the office from the VSP against Ryan Koss, 35, the driver of the Honda that collided with Williams. An arraignment in the criminal division of Vermont Superior Court in Bennington was set for September when Koss was expected to face official charges.

Through his attorney Ian Carleton, Koss released a statement on August 4, 2023, expressing his belief that the allegations against him were “unwarranted,” stating that he had followed all traffic regulations, giving his sympathies to the Williams family, and requesting privacy. In Vermont, a felony charge of “grossly negligent operation resulting in death” carries a maximum jail term of fifteen years.

Koss made an appearance before the Bennington County Superior Court on September 25, 2023, for arraignment. He entered a not-guilty plea to the charge of death caused by gross negligence.

Season 14, Episode 3 of Blue Bloods aired on March 1, 2024, and the upcoming episode “Fear No Evil” was dedicated to Williams.

It was reported on March 8, 2024, that Koss will avoid prison time after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving with fatality following. Gill—Williams’ son—forgave Koss in court. “You just weren’t looking and you were negligent and incompetent that day and that’s as far as my anger with this goes because I know you didn’t mean to do it,” Gill commented.
