Alec Baldwin Rust

On Wednesday, a jury in New Mexico convicted the armourer guilty of involuntary manslaughter for loading the gun that Alec Baldwin was carrying with a live cartridge before it went off on the set of “Rust,” killing the film’s cameraman.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a 26-year-old armourer, was named by prosecutors as the person responsible for letting live bullets into the set of the film despite strict prohibitions against them. Her possible prison sentence is 18 months.

The trial for Mr. Baldwin, who is also facing involuntary manslaughter charges, is set for July. There is a possibility that Mr. Baldwin, 65, might spend up to 18 months behind bars if found guilty.

A deadly gunshot in New Mexico in 2021 on the set of the film “Rust” is the basis of the case. Mr Baldwin was gunning down cameraman Halyna Hutchins and injuring the film’s director in a practice round. According to Mr. Baldwin, who has claimed culpability for the incident on multiple occasions, the gun in question did not hold live bullets, and it is believed that sets are prohibited from using live ammo.

Alec Baldwin News

Mr Baldwin was practicing a sequence involving ‘cross drawing’ a revolver on October 21, 2021, within a building that portrayed a wooden church from the 19th century. Ms. Hutchins was hit in the chest by a bullet that went off as the crew was preparing the shot. Joel Souza, who directed the picture, took a blow to the shoulder.

After being transported to a hospital in Albuquerque by helicopter, 42-year-old Ms. Hutchins passed away. Mr. Souza, who is 48 years old, was transported to a Santa Fe hospital by ambulance and was discharged the following day.

Production insiders have stated that six camera crew members left the set in the hours leading up to filming due to labor disputes, including lengthy workdays and late paychecks, as detailed in an affidavit.

Three ex-crew members have testified that there were two unintentional gunshots on set in the days leading up to the deadly incident.

Alec Baldwin Charges

Like many other jurisdictions, New Mexico defines involuntary manslaughter as the unlawful but accidental killing of another person.

Mr. Baldwin was indicted on two counts of involuntary manslaughter on January 19, 2024, but he can only be found guilty of one of those counts. Both charges are felonies; the more serious one alleges “total disregard or indifference for the safety of others,” while the lesser one claims he was careless with a gun.

A different group of prosecutors dismissed Mr. Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter allegations three months after they were originally filed in January 2023. In the end, the grand jury did decide to refile charges, as those prosecutors had already said.
